People with autism, ADHD, and other types of neurodiversity are primed for depression and anxiety. The aftermath of the pandemic has left many of us traumatized due to the loss of loved ones, our routines, and our feelings of safety. Building strong connections with natural and formal supports helps, but learning the skills to do so can be taxing for anyone, especially those of us who struggle with social situations in the first place. We're here to help!
We see individuals 18 years and older. While you are not required to be a gender, romantic, or sexual minority or a neurodiverse person to receive services from our practice, please note that these individuals are given priority due to both our specializations and the historical dearth of services available to these individuals.
We don't believe in "not putting a label on it." Many of us have been given this or other invalidating rebuttals when voicing our concerns to medical practitioners throughout our lives. However, labels do not an individual make. They are shorthand to help us understand ourselves and explain ourselves to others. We do our due diligence in not assigning unnecessary diagnoses, but understand the power that words - labels included - hold for people. Don't be afraid of what you might learn about yourself through the therapeutic process: Embrace it!
Autism and ADHD (or ADD) are our specialty practice areas. The spectrum of neurodiversity goes far beyond these two common and often co-occurring differences. Neurodivergence often correlates with queerness, and so we celebrate both spectrums of human expression!
Additionally, we are trauma-informed and have a great deal of experience with helping those harmed by complex trauma, complicated grief, and addictions of all kinds. Working from a holistic view of the human being, we pride ourselves on ethical, evidence-based practice. Individual need takes precedent over a one-size-fits-all approach. Our major theoretical backgrounds are in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Humanistic Psychology, and Motivational Interviewing.
Telehealth is provided via SimplePractice, a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform you can download for free and use anywhere.
We are currently only licensed to provide services within the State of Maryland. Please ensure that you have the ability to be within Maryland at the time of service.
Individual and group supervision services for Maryland social work students may be available for those looking to serve the queer and neurodiverse communities. Interested? Email arlee@undertherainbowllc.com with your info!
